Pike
The over 700 sharp teeth of the pike can easily cut the nylon that is why one might need a minimum 20 cm string to avoid the cutting of the wire. It once happened to me when I was fishing in a place with abundant hornwort and I was getting the oscillant up and down with aggressive moves. It was then that a small pike missed the spoon and bit the wire. The whole scene happened at the surface so I could see for a few moments the still jack and the sinking spoon. Mind you, when you pull the hook out of a pike's mouth do not use your own finger, use a pair of tongs, and to open the mouth use a special opener. In order to keep its teeth sharp, the pike regularly change its teeth, so on new moon it gets new teeth and not to solid ones that is why it doesn't bite the spoon in this period. It is on a full moon that the pike's teeth are sharper and it is very aggressive. This theory is generally correct as not all the pikes change their teeth at one time. It has been statistically proved that pikes bite better during full moon.
On my own experience I will tell you the main factors that I believe influence pike fishing:
-
The most important factor is something I couldn't really understand. It occurred to me that in places where industrial fishing tackle would catch lots of pike, I couldn't' catch anything with my rod, although all of the conditions were favorable.
-
The agglomeration of pikes on square meter: that a higher density of pikes leads to a more productive fishing;
-
The water level(a lower level makes the fish from the flooded areas to go to deeper areas, which leads to a higher density of pike). When the elevation is 300 cm at Tulcea, many areas are flooded, and many fish go to these areas, and at an elevation of 100 cm, the fish go to channels and lakes.
-
Climatic factors: temperature, atmospheric pressure and wind. The wind is a benefic factor as the waves the wind produces, help at the oxygenating of water. I have had the best results on the windy day (and even storm). The sudden change of temperature are a negative factor.
-
The moon phases which influence the teeth of pikes. It is on full moon that pike is best fished.
-
If in the spot, there was an intensive pike fishing the latter will be more cancious so the results of fishing will be weaker, while in more unknown places where spoons haven't been used, the pike will bite more.
