The floating reed islets
The floating reed islets are made of a mix of roots, herbs, reed, organic material and soil. The roots of reed are very important: gas accumulation is formed here, which leads to the emerging of the layer and its tearing, because of the wind. Their width varies from 0.50 to 1.50 m (details).

The lotca (boat)
The "lotca" is the local and dialectical name for the boat. Traditional fishermen's boats are made of wood and then are painted with tar. Depending on the number of ribs, the boats can be small or large. In the picture you have a small fisherman boat (2-3 persons) of 13 ribs, while a large boat has 18-20 ribs.

| The flood patches
Are small portions of shallow water with aquatic vegetation, which especially attract birds. During flooding it is populated by fish, but during draught periods, the water can totally receed from them. They are formed by the clogging of lakes or the agglomeration of reed islets.

The fisheries
The fisheries are centers of collecting and sorting of fish. They are especially designed for the keeping of fish in optimal conditions, and can be found all around the Danube Delta (details).
| The ghiol
Ghiol is the local name for lake. Although they are quite large, they aren't deeper than 1-3 m, excepting the meander lake Belciug (7 m depth). The Delta's largest lakes, excepting Razim are: Dranov (21,5 Km2), Rosu (14,4 Km2), Gorgova (13.7 Km2), Lumina (13.6 Km2), Isac (11 Km2).

The seines
Seines are industrial fishing tackle, nets with floaters on the upper side and sinkers on their lower side, so they can stand in the water. Its functional principle is the following: the fish try to get through the fine net, but get struck in it, so the line should be very thin.
