The adventure in the Danube Delta.
October 2001
Around the 24th of October we went fishing in the same area: Caraorman. I had learned that pikes began their attack a week before, and was still well fished.

Date: 20th of October 2001
A nice sunny day, with a breeze of wind. There a capture of fish but a much weaker one compared to the previous. The picture is taken from a floating reed islet that closed a corner of the Lumina Lake. This is how some patches of water were formed and even the access to the lake was closed by one, therefore we had to pull the boat over it. A few weeks later the reed isles came off the shore and remade the original configuration of the lake. The pike in the picture weighed about 1,4 kilos.

Towards the end of this day of fishing in the Lumina Lake, we had also caught a pike at about 2.5 - 3 kilos, which made us a little anxious about it as the hook wasn't well pricked (you can see the spoon that hangs out the open month!). The droll didn't take more than 10 minutes and couldn't even be longer as the nylon 0,45 mm). |

My cousin, Dragos and I, along with our trophy on the Puiulet Lake, on our way home. Pleased by the fishing we caught that day (10 kilos) and the pike above we were already thinking hopefully of the next day. |
 |
Completely annoyed by the pike which hadn't bitter for the next three days, we decided to enjoy ourselves with the perch (somewhere at the entrance in the Puiulet Lake). Picture taken at Caraorman fishing with what we gathered in the previous 6 hours of fishing. Dragos and Catalin seem quite pleased with the capture (50 kilos of perch). |
Conclusions: In the first days 20th - 22 of October, due to the nice weather with a slow breeze and a quite high temperature, the capture of pike was quite big, but on Tuesday the 23rd of October the weather became suddenly cold, it rained, the wind was strong and in the next days there was hoar-frost in the morning. Because this cooling of the weather and the full moon (pikes change their thigh at full moon) we almost didn't catch anything, the captures being very rare. We comforted ourselves with the perch which has no rest and goes for anything and everything that move: The oscillat the spinner, the twister, frog, frame, etc. The used tools were oscillat the "biscuit" type of 10-15 gms, 0.35 mm and 0.45 mm nylon, the latter being for "the best of stuff", which unfortunately didn't show up.
